PERI UK targets digital engineering to improve temporary works safety

PERI UK has expanded its digital engineering services to help construction teams coordinate temporary works, identify design conflicts and plan installation before work begins on site.

The company combines Building Information Modelling (BIM), 3D visualisation, clash detection and extended reality (XR) with its engineering expertise to support projects across the infrastructure, high-rise, commercial, residential and industrial sectors.

David Seber, Digital Lead at PERI UK, said: “Our aim is to produce great engineering design and help customers make better decisions before construction even begins.

“By combining engineering expertise with digital tools such as 3D models, clash detection, animations, and mixed reality, we can improve collaboration, increase design certainty, and give project teams the confidence to build safely and efficiently.”

BIM and clash detection support temporary works planning

PERI UK works with customers to develop digital models and information in line with project-specific BIM methodologies and information management requirements.

Its digital services include detailed 3D models incorporating project information such as pour identification (IDs) and asset numbers, alongside rendered visualisations to support tender submissions, construction sequencing and communication between project teams.

Clash detection and model coordination can identify potential conflicts between temporary and permanent works before construction starts.

“Design overview animations can also illustrate proposed solutions and construction sequences, while assembly and operational animations can help teams plan installation and prepare risk assessments and method statements (RAMS).

Seber said: “The benefit is being able to identify potential issues before they reach site, reducing uncertainty and giving project teams greater confidence in the solution before construction starts.”

The service also includes model coordination workshops, live quantity take-offs and digital support during installation and operation, linking design and planning with on-site delivery.

PERI XR enables interactive 3D visualisation

PERI UK’s digital offering includes the PERI XR / Extended Experience App, which allows customers to explore temporary works models using augmented and virtual reality.

Available through app stores or a web browser, the platform enables project teams to navigate 3D models on mobile devices and tablets. Models can be viewed in a virtual environment or overlaid onto the physical site using augmented reality.

Seber said: “Rather than interpreting complex drawings alone, customers can navigate and interact with full 3D temporary works models.

This provides teams with a more intuitive understanding of construction sequences, installation requirements and proposed outcomes.”

The technology is intended to help designers, engineers, contractors and site teams understand complex temporary works arrangements and communicate proposed installation methods more clearly.

Digital engineering supports project delivery

PERI UK said its digital services are designed to complement, rather than replace, engineering expertise. The company identifies project coordination, design certainty, visual communication, installation planning and productivity as areas where digital tools can support delivery.

Seber said: “Digital services certainly create impressive models, but far more importantly, they deliver measurable value throughout a project.”

He added: “Digital services are not intended to replace engineering expertise, they’re here to enhance it. By integrating digital technologies with engineering knowledge, customers can benefit from smarter planning, clearer communication and greater confidence at every stage of a project.

“As construction continues to embrace digital delivery, PERI UK is remaining focused and unwaveringly determined to continue developing services that complement our proven solutions.”
