Mace Consult joins delivery team for Rolls-Royce SMR nuclear construction programme
Mace Consult has been appointed as part of the delivery partner team supporting Rolls-Royce SMR in the development and construction of its small modular reactor (SMR) programme, marking a significant step towards the delivery of new nuclear infrastructure in the UK and internationally.
The delivery team is being led by Amentum and will provide integration, oversight and governance, alongside construction management and execution services across the global SMR programme.
As part of the commission, Mace Consult will support Rolls-Royce SMR across programme and project management, advisory services and responsible business, with a specific focus on project controls. This includes the mobilisation of delivery partner processes and systems required to manage a complex, multi-site nuclear construction programme.
The role reflects growing demand for specialist construction management expertise capable of coordinating supply chains, governance and delivery models across large-scale, regulated infrastructure projects.
Experience on major infrastructure and nuclear projects
Mace Consult’s appointment draws on its track record delivering major construction and infrastructure programmes globally, including the Hudson Tunnel project in the US, the New Hospital Programme in the UK, and King Salman International Airport in Saudi Arabia.
The consultancy also brings experience from the nuclear sector, including work at Hinkley Point C, Sizewell C and projects across the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority estate, providing lessons learned from complex, safety-critical construction environments.
The initial phase of the Rolls-Royce SMR programme will focus on deployment in the UK and the Czech Republic, with proposed UK construction at Wylfa in North Wales and an international site at Temelín.

In the UK, Rolls-Royce SMR has been selected as preferred bidder by Great British Energy – Nuclear (GBE-N) to deliver three SMR units, providing up to 1.5GW of low-carbon electricity. The programme is expected to create more than 8,000 long-term jobs, with significant implications for the construction supply chain.

Construction-led delivery approach
Commenting on the appointment, Mace Consult chief executive Davendra Dabasia highlighted the scale and ambition of the programme.
“Around the world, the pressing need to generate more low-carbon energy is more acute than ever,” he said. “Rolls-Royce SMR’s vision to provide clean, affordable energy for all presents an ambitious, exciting and scalable solution to the challenge, and this appointment marks a critical step towards deployment.”
He added: “We’re incredibly proud to be part of Amentum’s delivery partner team, with our role serving as a signal of our track record not only in the nuclear industry, but as a leading major programme delivery consultant around the world.”
Focus on delivery certainty and best practice
Dabasia said Mace Consult would apply lessons from major construction programmes across sectors and geographies.
“We are committed to bringing our experience, expertise and insights gathered from different sectors and geographies to provide Rolls-Royce SMR with a service grounded in best practice and innovation,” he said.
The appointment comes as the UK looks to accelerate nuclear delivery to support energy security, net zero targets and long-term infrastructure investment.
