Kier has been appointed by Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) to lead the design of accessibility improvements at Heaton Park Metrolink stop in Prestwich, with proposed works including new ramps, larger lifts and upgraded platform access.

The scheme forms part of TfGM’s Metrolink Stop Improvements Programme, which aims to improve accessibility and passenger facilities across the tram network.

Alongside step-free access upgrades, the proposals include the demolition and reconstruction of stepped access to platforms, new waiting shelters, drainage works and improvements to the stop entrance.

The scheme is intended to provide a more accessible facility for passengers with mobility needs, people travelling with pushchairs and those carrying heavy luggage.

Heaton Park is on the Bury line and serves the 600-acre park, which attracts local residents and visitors for leisure activities and events.

Ian Davies, Network Director for Metrolink at TfGM, said: “Heaton Park is a key stop on Greater Manchester’s tram network, serving local residents and visitors to one of the city-region’s most popular leisure destinations. These upgrades will help create a more modern, welcoming and accessible facility for the people who use it.

“Accessibility is a key priority for us and we will be making changes to the stop enabling easier access for passengers with mobility issues, people with pushchairs and those travelling with heavy luggage.
