Wandsworth Council approves 200 homes at Battersea Power Station
Wandsworth Council has secured planning permission for 200 new council homes at Battersea Power Station in south-west London.
The homes will form part of the council’s Homes for Wandsworth programme and will be built on an undeveloped brownfield site within Phase 5 of the Battersea Power Station masterplan, to the east of the Grade II* listed Power Station.
The development will provide homes for local people, including families, at social rent levels. Wandsworth Council will own and operate the properties.

Construction is expected to begin in 2027, with completion scheduled for 2029.
Brownfield development
Designed by Peckham-based architecture studio Dowen Farmer Architects, the residential scheme will comprise a multi-layered building with communal gardens and a south-facing roof garden.
The design incorporates architectural references to the neighbouring Power Station, including vertical detailing and brick latticework reflecting the listed building’s brick façade. A racing green base will define community uses at ground-floor level.
The ground floor will also include public spaces, a tree-lined street and accommodation for local businesses, leisure and hospitality uses.
The development forms part of the wider regeneration of the Battersea Power Station site and will connect with the emerging neighbourhood around the former power station.
Council and GLA funding
Wandsworth Council is bringing forward the project in partnership with Battersea Power Station Development Company and the Greater London Authority (GLA).

The scheme will be financed through the council’s existing Housing Revenue Account and supported by GLA grant funding.
Cllr Robert Morritt, Leader of Wandsworth Council, said: “This decision kick-starts an exciting time for Wandsworth as we move at pace to deliver more high-quality homes for rent or sale across our borough.
“Working in partnership with Battersea Power Station, this well-designed development of 200 properties shows our commitment to good growth and building homes for local people.”
Deputy Mayor of London for Housing and Residential Development, Tom Copley, said: “I am delighted planning permission has been granted for 200 new high-quality council homes in Wandsworth, which marks an important milestone in the delivery of a vibrant new neighbourhood at Battersea Power Station.
“The Mayor and I are proud to be working with Battersea Power Station and Wandsworth Council, providing investment to deliver social housing at one of London’s most iconic regeneration sites, as we work to build a fairer, more prosperous London for everyone.”

James Saunders, CEO at Battersea Power Station Development Company, said: “These new homes represent another important milestone in the delivery of our vision for Battersea Power Station, and we’re delighted to be bringing them forward in partnership with Wandsworth Council and the GLA.
“Alongside today’s announcement, we continue to make strong progress across the wider development, with construction on the final section of Electric Boulevard, our pedestrianised high street, beginning soon.
“Following our recent public consultation on proposals for the future phases, we will be submitting a Section 73 application later this month, helping to ensure this vibrant riverside neighbourhood continues to evolve into a thriving town centre that serves the local community whilst attracting Londoners and visitors from further afield.”
