TVCTA apprentices return from Tanzania school build project
Thames Valley Construction Training Association (TVCTA) has supported two construction apprentices on an international volunteering placement in Tanzania, where they helped deliver a classroom build within a Maasai community.
Rob Vine, winner of the 2025 TVCTA Apprenticeship Award, and Josh from Moorland Heritage Limited spent two weeks in Arusha working on a local school construction project. The placement was fully funded by TVCTA in partnership with Projects Abroad.
The pair contributed to the construction of a new classroom, gaining experience of different building conditions and methods while supporting education infrastructure in the local area.

TVCTA said the initiative forms part of its wider commitment to supporting apprentice development beyond standard training pathways in the UK construction sector.
A spokesperson for TVCTA said: “We are incredibly proud to have supported Rob and Josh on this journey and are delighted to welcome them back.
Their commitment and attitude were exceptional, and the perspective they have gained will stay with them for years to come. The impact they have made will not be forgotten by those they supported.”
The TVCTA Apprenticeship Awards recognise emerging talent across the construction industry, with additional development opportunities designed to support both technical skills and broader professional experience.
The organisation said initiatives such as international placements are intended to broaden apprentices’ understanding of the sector and provide exposure to different construction environments.
