Staffordshire-based Tara Group has launched a new strategic land business with around 150 acres of land under promotion or within the planning system.

Tara Strategic Land Limited will work with landowners and agents to secure planning permissions for development sites across the Midlands, with land currently under contract including brownfield, greybelt and agricultural sites.

The new business forms part of Tara Group, which includes housebuilders Cameron Homes and Keon Homes and civil engineering contractor Chasetown Civil Engineering.

Tara Strategic Land will provide land promotion services from initial site assessment through to planning permission, including the appointment of consultant teams required to progress applications.

The company is targeting sites to support the five-year land delivery plans of Cameron Homes and Keon Homes, as well as sites for external clients and potential land disposal agreements with developers.

The business will be led by Director of Strategic Land Kate Tait and Head of Strategic Land Elliott Lawley.

Tait joined Tara Group in 2020 and has more than 35 years’ experience in residential development across the Midlands, including more than 20 years working in development land and planning.

Lawley joined Tara Group as a graduate in 2018 before progressing into the strategic land function.

Kate Tait, Director of Strategic Land at Tara Strategic, said: “As the pressure on land supply grows and the planning landscape remains fraught with complexities, strategic land promotion requires an increasingly specialist approach.

“Tara Strategic Land has launched as a business that can move fast, think long-term, and deliver the best strategies and solutions for landowners, communities, and the Group alike.

“From initial conversations through to planning permission, we’ll be hands-on with deep local market knowledge, technical expertise, and a track record of delivering sites that go on to become the homes and places people are proud to live in. If you own land, or represent someone who does and you’re wondering what it could become, we are eager to talk.”

20-hectare Chasetown site planned for 430 homes

One of the sites being promoted by Tara Strategic is a 20-hectare development site off Highfields Road in Chasetown, within Burntwood, Staffordshire.

An outline planning application was submitted to Lichfield District Council earlier this year for a scheme of up to 430 homes alongside community facilities.

The proposed development is located on a former mining site and forms part of Tara Strategic’s current portfolio of greybelt land.

The company said its strategic land portfolio also includes a combination of brownfield and agricultural sites.

Elliott Lawley, Head of Strategic Land at Tara Strategic, said: “Land is the foundation for every development opportunity. Long before a single home is built, the right sites have to be identified, solid relationships built, and the optimum planning permissions secured.

“This requires patience, trust across the project team and advisers, and technical housebuilding intel. Tara Group has excelled in creating value from residential land for decades, but now our strategic land function has a name and an identity of its own, which will enable us to grow and deliver far more.”
