Construction of a 30,000 sq ft advanced manufacturing development at the Advanced Manufacturing Innovation District Scotland (AMIDS) in Renfrewshire is set to move forward after detailed planning permission was granted.

Known as Tech Terrace, the speculative development will provide a series of flexible manufacturing units, with individual footprints starting at around 2,000 sq ft.

Construction is targeted to begin in autumn.

The development is being brought forward by AMIDS joint venture partners Renfrewshire Council and Buccleuch Property, with £4.74m of grant funding from Scottish Enterprise alongside matched funding from the joint venture partners.

Located adjacent to Glasgow Airport, the scheme is intended to address a shortage of suitable premises for advanced manufacturing businesses and provide space for companies to expand.

Tech Terrace will be delivered within a landscaped campus setting, with the development forming part of the wider AMIDS advanced manufacturing and life sciences cluster.

Renfrewshire Council Leader Iain Nicolson said: “This is an exciting step in the ongoing development of AMIDS. Tech Terrace will play a key role in helping businesses establish themselves within Renfrewshire and benefit from being part of a manufacturing cluster, with the opportunity to expand into larger, purpose-built facilities as they grow. AMIDS supports our objective to provide local people access to high-quality jobs and to establish Renfrewshire as a global leader in advanced manufacturing.”

The development sits within the AMIDS and Glasgow Airport Tax Site, which provides fiscal incentives for eligible businesses.

Josh Thomas, Development Manager at Buccleuch Property, said: “Securing planning approval is a major milestone for Tech Terrace and for the continued development of AMIDS.

“Our commitment to delivering manufacturing units capable of accommodating a range of users will allow innovative businesses to cluster around the leading High Value Manufacturing Catapults – the National Manufacturing Institute Scotland (NMIS) and CPI’s Medicines Manufacturing Innovation Centre – whether that’s on a speculative or design and build basis.”

The project is designed to provide manufacturing space for a range of occupiers, with units capable of being delivered on either a speculative or design-and-build basis.
