The Lighthouse Charity delivered £6.3 million of charitable and leveraged support to construction workers and their families during 2025, as demand for wellbeing services continued to increase across the industry.

The charity’s 2025 Impact Report shows it supported 6,712 families over the year, while funding 8,714 counselling sessions and responding to a record number of critical incidents affecting construction workers.

The findings come as the sector continues to face pressures including rising material costs, labour shortages and ongoing workforce challenges.

Critical incident support and counselling demand increases

According to the report, the charity responded to 94 critical incidents during 2025, representing a 42% increase compared with the previous year.

The Critical Incident Response Service provides specialist support following serious incidents and fatalities on and off site.

Demand for mental health support also continued to grow, with the charity funding 8,714 counselling sessions, an increase of 51% compared with 2024.

The report also highlights that the charity generated £2.7 million in leveraged support through external funding sources, including other charitable organisations and statutory benefits, helping extend the reach of its financial assistance.

Sarah Bolton, chief executive of the Lighthouse Charity, said: “Last year we continued with our strategy of increasing awareness of our services and building and supporting our communities. This has been incredibly successful, and we have been able to connect with more people than ever before. As well as supporting 17% more families than in the previous year, we also reached more people through our #MakeItVisible initiative and our Critical Incident Response Service.”

She added: “It’s imperative that we have the resources to be able to respond to those that need our help, so we now have a team of 12 front line call handers and caseworkers.

“They are the critical touch point for those reaching out for support through our 24/7 helpline and we have also enhanced our live web chat service so that this too is available 24/7. This ensures that we have the resources and expertise to meet the diverse needs of our community whilst proactively seeking new sources of funding.”

Social value reaches £16.96 for every £1 spent

The charity reported that every £1 of charitable expenditure generated £16.96 in social value during 2025, representing a 39% increase compared with the previous year.

The report also outlines how the organisation continued to fund frontline services by drawing on financial reserves while maintaining support for construction workers and their families.

Sarah Bolton said: “Our number one priority is the community we serve and these strategic decisions have allowed us to continue to deliver our vital support. We will maintain our focus on our core services whilst ensuring lean working practices and continuous process improvement.”

She added: “Our team are so proud of the meaningful impact our work delivers, but we can only do what we do with the continued support of our industry, so I would like to extend a special thank you to everyone who contributes to our cause and helps us change and save lives.”

The report also notes that 2026 marks the Lighthouse Charity’s 70th anniversary, with a programme of events planned across the UK and Ireland to mark the milestone.
