Briggs Amasco has been recognised for its work on the £80 million redevelopment of Perth High School after winning the Single Ply Roofing Association (SPRA) Sustainability Award 2025.

The award, presented jointly to BriggsAmasco and Bauder Limited, recognised the contractor’s delivery of a high-performance roofing system that met the stringent energy efficiency requirements of the Passivhaus Classic standard while reducing carbon emissions and material use.

The award was announced during the SPRA awards presentation at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole in Birmingham.

Passivhaus roofing system delivered for major school redevelopment

BriggsAmasco was responsible for delivering the 6,000m² roofing package, which included flat roof waterproofing, steel decking installation, perimeter drip flashings, permanent walkways and edge protection.

The roofing system was designed to meet the project’s demanding energy performance target of 67kWh/m² per annum, supporting the wider Passivhaus Classic requirements for the new school.

Judges praised the thermal performance of the installation, highlighting the precision required to complete the double-layer insulation system while maintaining the tight tolerances required under the Passivhaus standard.

Working alongside the design team, Briggs Amasco developed a solution to stagger insulation layers at level changes across the roof, eliminating cold bridging and maintaining a continuous thermal envelope despite the building’s complex geometry.

Kobir Ahamed, Sustainability Manager at Briggs Amasco, said: “This was a tremendous achievement and it is testimony to not only the quality of the products but also the installations by our specialist team and the cohesion between all involved in the project.

“In fact, exceptional levels of precision, planning and quality control were required to achieve the ultra-low energy outcome, and the roof’s aesthetically striking finish.”

Further recognition for sixth form college project

Briggs Amasco also received a Highly Commended award in the Best New Build category for its work on Pudsey Sixth Form College.

The £11.4 million education project involved the design and construction of a 1,611m² roof incorporating rooftop solar photovoltaic panels and air source heat pumps.

The company said early collaboration with IKO Group and the wider project team helped overcome demanding wind uplift requirements and ensured the roofing system met the building’s performance objectives while accommodating renewable energy technologies.

The awards recognise BriggsAmasco’s delivery of technically complex roofing systems that support low-carbon construction and improved building performance across the education sector.
