The Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) has opened entries for the 2026 Art of Building photography competition, inviting photographers from around the world to capture the buildings, infrastructure and people that shape the built environment.

The free-to-enter competition, which is open to anyone aged 18 or over, returns after a one-year break to introduce a new entry system.

Organisers say the competition remains focused on showcasing architecture, construction and the wider built environment through photography.

Two cash prizes of £1,500 will be awarded, with both amateur and professional photographers eligible to enter.

Competition celebrates construction and the built environment

The Art of Building competition is dedicated to photography of the built environment, encouraging entrants to submit images that highlight the design, construction and use of buildings and infrastructure.

Entries open on 30 July and close on 7 September, after which an expert judging panel will shortlist the finalists before a public vote determines the winning images. Winners will be announced on 3rd November.

Saul Townsend, Head of Communications at CIOB, said: “It is brilliant to have the Art of Building competition back.

“We took a break last year to improve the entry system, and now we are returning with a simpler experience and the same ambition to celebrate the creativity, people and stories found across the built environment.

“The competition gives photographers from around the world the chance to share their own unique perspective on the places we build and the way they shape our lives. We are really looking forward to seeing what they capture this year.”

Entries showcase architecture, infrastructure and construction

The competition has previously attracted entries from photographers across the world, featuring a broad range of subjects including commercial buildings, historic structures, infrastructure projects and moments from construction sites and communities.
